The 20th  Lake Tahoe
Emerald Bay Half Marathon

This is a new course this year. Originally it started at Rubicon. The race is timed to start after the first 40 or so marathoners go by. It  starts near Inspiration Point at the top of Emerald Bay providing a downhill race. This new course has eliminated the dreadful "Hills from Hell". This start area can be viewed in the movie "City of Angels" where Meg Ryan bikes down the narrow spine of the ridge over looking Emerald Bay, Cascade Lake, and Tahoe itself. Rent the film and see it in the last 15 minutes of the film. This may be the most beautiful run you ever do. The first 3 miles are all down hill and then picks up the bike trail at Spring Creek. Cross over Taylor Creek Bridge and the spawning fire cracker red Kokanee salmon below, through the Pope and Valhalla Historical Estates along the waters edge, by Camp Richardson, continue on into the city of South Lake Tahoe and run the bike paths all the way to Lakeside Beach below the Casino corridor.  A cold beer and a hot dog, a finishers medal and  shirt await you. There are aid stations every mile to cheer and pamper you.  Check the back of your race number for the shuttle bus schedule.

The Half Marathon shuttle bus leaves from the South Lake Tahoe Transportation Center next to the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel,  and there is  a shuttle leaving from Homewood Ski Area. Check the back of your race number for time. 

The best way for Tahoe City-Truckee-North Tahoe residents is to have some one drop you off at the Half Marathon start area at Inspiration Point and meet you at the finish or take a shuttle bus from Homewood. There is no race parking at Emerald Bay.

South Lake Tahoe visitors or residents may catch a shuttle bus to the Half Marathon start line  from  near the Tahoe Valley Post Office at the "Y" in South Lake Tahoe (intersection of HWY 50 & HWY 89). Check your race bib for shuttle bus times.

  Consider staying at our Half Marathon sponsor, the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel  at Lake Tahoe. Is is about 100 yards from the Expo and main shuttle bus departure point to the start line. Call 800-988-9820 for reservations and mentions the marathon.

 The finish line clock is turned off at 3 PM. Or a 5 hour time limit.

Camping Tip:

There is a 10 space camp ground right at the start line of the 10K at Inspiration Point.
First come first serve for about $14/night.
Please do not park plan on parking outside the campground  or leaving your car at Inspiration Point
the night before the race.  It will be towed away and cited.
Parking there  will interfere with the narrow start area of the 10K and could prevent our buses
from parking and  turning around.
