You can get around Lake Tahoe with our local bus system quite easily:

If you fly into Reno take the South Tahoe Express from the airport.
Take the free charter buses from the Embassy Suites to the Tahoe Queen for the Sunset Pasta Cruise
Take the free Marathon event Shuttle Buses from the Embassy Suites to the various start lines race day,
and post event shuttles  from the Pope Beach finish line back to the Embassy Suites with drop offs along the way
